Explore the area

Yarraville and Seddon are located side by side and are both vibrant interesting villages! Both villages contain a good range of restaurants, cafes, boutiques and other services.

Cafes and Restaurants

From the Seddon house, Café Advieh is located a mere three doors down, while the Gravy Train Café and Gourmet on Gamon are a short 100m walk.

The house in Yarraville is very handy to the Yarraville Club (which includes a children’s play area in the Pekish bistro) or a short 300m walk to the village provides funky bars, the Blarney Stone Irish pub, Jasmine Inn Thai restaurant, Bhopa Devi Cambodian restaurant, The Bank restaurant and a range of other welcoming cafes and restaurants.

A short distance from either Yarraville or Seddon is the multicultural precinct of Footscray, with a huge range of Vietnamese, Chinese, Indian and African restaurants, including Cafe Lalibela Ethiopean restaurant, Master Chinese restaurant, Thien An Vietnamese restaurant and Taj Palace Indian restaurant.

Supermarkets, grocery shopping and other supplies

Seddon village has two supermarkets, Seddon Foodworks and A. Bongiovanni and Son, as well as Waldie’s Bakery and Pompello Fruit, both in Victoria Street.

Yarraville has two supermarkets within the village. There are also two butchers – Yarraville Village Old Style Butchers and Andrew’s Choice with their award-winning sausages and two greengrocers, including Plump Organic Grocery.

There is also a Coles supermarket on the corner of Williamstown Road and High Street, Yarraville (about 1.4km from either house).

Footscray has the Footscray Market and the Little Saigon precinct where you can get all your Asian groceries.

Public Transport

Buses and trains are available in Yarraville. The railway station is in the centre of the village.

Seddon railway station is located only 600m to the east of the Seddon property - an easy walk along Mackay Street.

From Yarraville the city is only five stops away and from Seddon it is only four stops (train timetables can be accessed at http://ptv.vic.gov.au/ ).

In the opposite direction from the city and easily reached by train or car is the delightful historic seaport of Williamstown, with its spectacular views across the water of the Melbourne skyline. A ferry departs regularly from Williamstown for the Southbank precinct of Melbourne.

The 223 bus stops opposite the house in Seddon and will take you to Footscray and Highpoint shopping centre (bus timetables and route information can be accessed at http://ptv.vic.gov.au/route/view/737).

Harris Reserve, a delightful community park which contains a children's playground, is located a short walk up Gamon Street.

The Maribyrnong Makers Market is held periodically on a Saturday at the Uniting Church in Gamon Street, four doors down from the Seddon property. There is a twilight market on Wednesday 18th December 2013.

The Yarraville Farmers' Market is held at the Yarraville Gardens, corner Hyde and Somerville Roads, on the fourth Saturday morning of every month.

The Flemington Racecourse produce and craft market is held every Sunday from 9am to 2pm except for Sunday 25th November, which has been replaced by a twilight market on Saturday 24th November (3-8pm).

Williamstown produce and craft market is held on the 3rd Sunday of the month from 10am to 4pm.
